On October 26, the 2020 Hunan Biopharmaceutical and Health Industry Expo and Hunan (International) Biomedical Industry Development Conference were held in Changsha. Vice Governor Wu Guiying attended and delivered a speech.

Wu Guiying stated that Hunan’s biomedical industry has a long history, abundant resources, and a complete range of industrial system. The biomedical industry chain is one of Hunan’s 20 emerging superior industrial chains. It is an important force to “build a hub of advanced manufacturing industry of national importance, and a hub of technological innovation with core competitiveness.”

Wu Guiying stressed that we should thoroughly study and implement the instructions made by President Xi Jinping during his inspection tour in Hunan, vigorously implement the innovation-driven development strategy, focus on life sciences, medical health and other fields, increase R&D input, and support the development of the biomedical industry.

In 2019, the Hunan Medical Products Administration issued ten measures to promote the development of the medical equipment industry and five measures to undertake the transfer of the cosmetics industry. Thanks to the new measures, Hunan biomedical industry has developed rapidly. Since the beginning of this year, the medical equipment industry saw the fastest growth. The number of registered medical equipment in the second and third categories has increased from 1,802 in the first nine months of 2019 to 3,216 in the first nine months of 2020, an increase of 78% year-on-year. The number of registered companies has increased from 429 to 810, a year-on-year increase of 89%. The output value of Hunan’s medical equipment industry has increased from 10 billion yuan in 2018 and 18 billion yuan in 2019 to about 45 billion yuan in 2020. The medical equipment industry is expected to be built into a 100-billion industry.

A medical equipment seminar and a traditional Chinese medicine sub-forum were scheduled to be held at the expo.
