This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Ethiopia. On this occasion, the Ethiopia-China (Hunan) 50-Year Commercial Cooperation Online Forum was held.

Mr. Teshome Toga Chanaka, ambassador of Ethiopia to China, Ewnetu B.Debela, consul-general of Ethiopia in Guangzhou, and persons in charge of Hunan’s related departments, attended the video meeting.

The forum theme was “Ancient Culture, New Friends”. It was hosted by the CCPIT Hunan Sub-Council and the Consulate General of Ethiopia in Guangzhou. More than 200 representatives of enterprises and associations participated, such as the CCCC (China Communications Construction Company Ltd.) First Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd., China Railway Signal & Communication Corporation Limited (CRSC), China Merchants Group’s Djibouti Port, and Hunan Tourism Association.

Representative from Sany Group, a Chinese representative enterprise, shared their business experience and possible challenges in Ethiopia. Ethiopia’s investment, trade and industry, and tourism authorities, and coffee export association respectively presented investment opportunities and policies, trade opportunities and products, tourism, and coffee industry in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is an important African partner for China. Being held online amid the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, the forum enabled a simultaneous participation of Ethiopia, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Changsha representatives. It would facilitate Chinese enterprises, especially the Hunan-based ones, to understand Ethiopia’s investment, trade, and tourism advantages, and establish a bilateral economic and trade cooperation platform.
