Sui Zhongcheng, Hunan vice governor, met in Changsha with Jean Louis Robinson, ambassador of the Republic of Madagascar to China, on October 26, 2020.

Vice Governor Sui welcomed the guest. He introduced that Hunan is an important manufacturing base in China and a large agricultural province. Academician Yuan Longping and hybrid rice are well-known all over the world. The agricultural cooperation between Hunan and Madagascar has a good foundation. Yuan’s Seed Industry Co., Ltd. began to work on hybrid rice experimental demonstration and variety selection in Madagascar in 2008. Madagascar is a bridge and link for China and Africa to jointly implement the “Belt and Road” initiative. He expected Malaysia and Hunan to deepen practical cooperation in the fields of agriculture, economy and trade, and tourism.

The ambassador said that the people of Madagascar rely on rice as their staple food, and the country is very suitable for growing rice. It is hoped that Hunan will continue to help Madagascar expand the area of hybrid rice cultivation, increase rice yield per unit area, and realize food self-sufficiency and rice export to earn foreign exchange at an early date.
