A city-level large scale intelligent connected vehicle demonstration application was launched in Changsha on October 22. Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, and Yueyang agreed to a proposal on jointly developing city-level large scale intelligent connected vehicle road tests and demonstration applications. The collaboration will give an impetus to creating a new highland of intelligent connected vehicle development.

According to the proposal, the four cities will collaborate in intelligent connected vehicle testing, application scenarios, technical standard, commercial application demonstration, and brand activities. A joint conference mechanism will be established to achieve demonstration effect and collaborative development of city-level intelligent connected vehicle applications.

Since 2016, Changsha has implemented a “road, vehicle, cloud, and network” integrated plan, and developed domestically advanced all testing scenarios based on the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Changsha) Testing Zone. It opened China’s first demonstration intelligent bus line, and 100-km intelligent expressways and 100-sq km urban open roads. An intelligent connected vehicle cloud control platform has been established, and related development plans were rolled out. Several application scenarios for Level 4 (fully automated driving) taxi, sanitation vehicle, bus, logistics, and parking service were developed. As of now, Changsha has completed intelligent reconstruction for 139 crossroads; issued electronic registration identification (CRI) for more than 6,500 key vehicles; constructed an unmanned testing field accessible 24/7; and, carried out intelligent transformation of 73 bus lines and 2,072 buses.

Changsha will promote intelligent transformation of urban road in industrial parks, and special vehicles, such as bus, sanitation vehicle, and dump track, within three years, according to a manager of the Xiangjiang New Area Management Committee. By then, 30% vehicles will be intelligent connected, and 80% crossroads will complete intelligent reconstruction. With a full coverage of 5G, 60% residents will be able to enjoy connected vehicle service.
