Hunan Tourism Surges over Past 6 Years

The added value growth of Hunan’s tourism and related industries exceeded 100 billion yuan over the past six years. The Hunan Statistics Bureau updated the data on June 23. In 2019, the added value of Hunan’s tourism and related industries totaled 245.765 billion yuan, increasing by 10.17% year on year, and taking up 6.18% of GDP.

The added value of tourist transportation reached over 66.77 billion yuan, highest among all sub-sectors. Catering and shopping sectors both exceeded 30 billion yuan, while tourist lodging and sightseeing sectors exceeding 20 billion yuan. The added value of entertainment sector approached to 20 billion yuan, while that of comprehensive service was relatively lower, being about 12.88 billion yuan. 

All cities and prefecture saw flourishing tourism development, with 11 hitting 10 billion yuan in added value. In terms of the total value, Changsha topped the list with an annual tourism added value of 63.677 billion yuan. Yueyang and Changde ranked second and third respectively, with their tourism added value both exceeding 20 billion yuan. In terms of the proportion in GDP, Zhangjiajie ranked first with its tourism added value taking up 34.26% of its regional GDP. Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture followed with a proportion of 16.4%. Other cities and prefecture were under the provincial average.
