After an arduous journey, the second main transformer for the expansion project of the Changsha 1,000 kV UHV substation arrived in Changsha County at 13:00 on April 1. This transformer is a core component of the national key power transmission project which aims at improving a "日"-shaped UHV AC ring network in Central China. This transformer was carried by a "behemoth" tractor-trailer, together weighing 445 tonnes. The tractor-trailer measured 100 meters in length, 5.224 meters in width, and 4.95 meters in height, featuring 42 axles and 276 wheels. It was trailed by two tractors with over 600 horsepower, one pulling from the front and the other pushing from the rear. The entire journey was escorted by the Changsha Municipal Transportation Bureau and organized by the Changsha Transportation Comprehensive Law Enforcement Detachment. The journey started from Hengyang on March 30. (Photo/Xu Xing and Chen Yihong, Hunan Daily)
