Dragon Boat Festival Celebrations Across Hunan (May 31 - June 2)

The three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday is the perfect time for a trip. We've prepared a travel guide for you to explore Hunan during the holiday. 


Jinggang Ancient Town
From May 31 to June 2, visitors who can recite designated verses from Qu Yuan's classic poem Li Sao will enjoy complimentary admission. An interactive activity themed "Saving Qu Yuan" will be held during the holiday, allowing participants to explore an alternate historical storyline and gain an immersive cultural experience through a millennium of history.

Changsha International Convention and Exhibition Center
The 2025 Changsha Strawberry Music Festival has unveiled an all-star lineup across two electrifying days. On June 1, Chen Li, Cheer Chen, Accusefive, and Tong Young will stage live performances. On June 2, Guo Ding, Zhao Lei, and Omnipotent Youth Society will close out the festival with spectacular performances.

Liuyang Sky Theater
At 20:00 on May 31, a Duanwu Festival-themed weekend fireworks show will light up the night sky. The fireworks show, hosted by the Liuyang Fireworks and Firecrackers Association, is divided into four parts: a prelude titled "A Tribute to Qu Yuan", followed by three main chapters — "A Fiery Ode to the Spirit of Qu Yuan," "A Poetic and Pictorial Depiction of Folk Customs," and "A Glorious Chapter of Inheritance."

Changsha Tongguan Kiln China-chic Paradise
From May 31 to June 2, the scenic area will hold a "Celestial and Mortal Magical Contest", an event that perfectly blends ancient mythology with modern entertainment. Visitors can participate in fun challenges such as vermillion dot rituals (or painting a red dot on the forehead), shooting arrows, stones, or other weapons to defeat targets that represent the five poisonous pests, and playing chuiwan (an ancient Chinese ball sport resembling modern-day golf) to win exquisite gifts. Additionally, spectacular China-chic performances like drone shows, fireworks, and "Zhongjing in Changsha" will be staged, immersing tourists in the unique charm of Tang Dynasty culture.

Hengyang
Xiangjian-Jianxiang Industrial Cultural Block
From May 31 to June 2, a cross-industry carnival featuring "animation + e-sports + tourism" will take place in Hengyang. The city will come alive with a national tournament of Honor of Kings, a mobile game, and VALORANT, a 5v5 character-based tactical FPS, while the ACGN dance contest, itasha (decorated anime-themed cars) exhibitions, and ACG music performances will showcase the best of two-dimensional culture.

Zhangjiajie
Maoyan River Jiutian Cave Scenic Area
From May 31 to June 2, an array of activities including giving out free zongzi, a treasure hunt at Jiutian Cave, the Battle-Drum Dance performed by the Bai ethnic minority, and Sangzhi folk songs performances will be held at Jiutian Cave Scenic Area, Kuzhu Ancient Ferry Terminal, and Maoyan River Rafting Pier. The Jiutian Cave Scenic Area will offer free admission to domestic tourists during the period.

Yiyang
Ming and Qing-era Ancient Lane Building Complex
From May 31 to June 2, more than 30 daily performances will be staged, including Peking Opera, Flower-drum Opera, Huangmei Opera, sitcoms, and other theater performances. Additionally, visitors can join interactive games with cast-members to win yin piao, a banknote with a value in silver in former times.

Huaihua
Huangdu Dong Culture Village Scenic Area
From May 31 to June 2, six major events will be held, including hosting a thousand-person zongzi wrapping contest to challenge a Guinness world record, parent-child activities of making zongzi and fishing zongzi, a parade of Chinese cartoon and fireworks displays, a long-table banquet of the Dong ethnic minority, a duck-catching event on the Pingtan River, and a father-son football match.
