Hunan Xiangjiang New Area City Gallery is situated at Zone D of Yanghu National Wetland Park, Yuelu District, Changsha City, north of the Xiangfu Road Bridge. The city gallery is bordered by the Xiangjiang River to the east and the wetland park to the west.
The city gallery project covers an area of 32.4 mu (2.16 hectares), with a construction area of 10,090 square meters and an exhibition area of about 6,400 square meters. The building resembles a "magic box" floating on water. Wei Chunyu, professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Architecture and Planning of Hunan University and chief architect of the university's Design and Research Institute, serves as the chief architect of the project.
The city gallery is an important window showcasing the planning, image, and achievements of the Hunan Xiangjiang New Area. It is coordinated with Li Zijian Art Museum, Xie Zilong Photography Museum, and Yanghu National Wetland Park, offering complementary functions that make it a popular cultural landmark in the new area.
The four-story city gallery adopts a variety of modern sound, light, and electronic technologies such as naxed eye 3D, 3D mapping projection, immersive image spaces, and digital sand tables. It is presented as a comprehensive modern and high-quality city museum that integrates the functions of exhibition, science education, government reception, business leisure, characteristic tourism, and information inquiry.
