Introduction to HNUST
Hunan University of Science & Technology (HNUST) which evolved from Northern Hunan Construction College founded in 1949, was established in 2003 by merging Xiangtan Institute of Technology and Xiangtan Normal University. The campus covers an area of over 3,003.88 mu (approximately 201 hectares). As a complex of 24 schools, together with Adult Higher Education College, International Education College, Xiaoxiang College, and Sanya Research Institute, HNUST offers 97 academic programs across 12 disciplines. Six disciplines, namely engineering, chemistry, computer science, material science, earth science and environment (ecology), are ranked among the top 1% globally in ESI. It has 7 postdoctoral research stations, 10 doctoral programs, and 50 master programs. According to the 2024 Soft Science University Rankings, HNUST ranks 184th; and according to the US News World University Rankings, it ranked 988th in 2022. HNUST has a staff of 2,759, including 1,814 full-time faculty. There are 37,367 full-time undergraduate students, 6,815 graduate students, and an additional 4,346 students from Xiaoxiang College. HNUST has established good cooperative relationships with more than 90 universities in over 30 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Austria, Ireland, Japan, and South Korea, etc. It has recruited international students from more than 30 countries and students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan of China.
Introduction to International Education
The School of International Education at Hunan University of Science and Technology was established in 2017 and operates in collaboration with the International Exchange Office and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the university. From the beginning, the school has adhered to the concept of a global community with a shared future, striving to create a new chapter in international education for the modern era. It promotes the university's internationalization from a global perspective and aims to build a high-level, comprehensive institution with distinct characteristics—leading in China and influential worldwide. The school has actively established strong cooperative relationships with nearly 90 universitiesacross30 countries and regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, as well as Taiwan and Macao. In 2015, it was first approved for the "National High-End Foreign Experts" program and the "Hunan Province 100 Foreign Experts Program." Since gaining approval to enroll international students in 2011, the university's 18 colleges have offered 58 majors to outstanding students from around the world. The international student population has expanded rapidly, now representing 31 countries. The university provides education at multiple levels, including undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, forming a system primarily focused on degree education, supplemented by long- and short-term Chinese language training. The annual enrollment exceeds 100 students, and currently, more than 200 international students are studying on campus.
