Hunan's Trade with Africa Hits 12.48 Billion CNY in Q1

Hunan's imports and exports with Africa amounted to 12.48 billion CNY in the first quarter of this year (Q1). Among which, exports expanded 33.2% to 6.72 billion CNY while imports reached 5.76 billion CNY, said the Changsha Customs Authority.

Exports of electrical equipment, automobiles, and measuring, testing, analyzing and controlling instruments and apparatus, as well as other mechanical and electrical products continue to experience growth. During the January-March period, Hunan exported 3.48 billion CNY of mechanical and electrical products to Africa, an increase of 34.8%. Of which, exports of electrical appliances, automobiles (including chassis), and measuring, testing, analyzing and controlling instruments and apparatus maintained increase, reaching 350 million CNY, 340 million CNY, and 150 million CNY, up 98.1%, 34.6%, and 20%, respectively.

In the first three months, South Africa was Hunan's biggest trading partner in Africa. Hunan's trade with South Africa reached 2.63 billion CNY, accounting for 21% of the total value of Hunan's imports and exports to Africa in the same period. Hunan's trade with Mozambique was 880 million CNY, surging 13.8 times. The province's trade with Côte d'Ivoire climbed 183.7% to 690 million CNY.

China has remained Africa's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching a record high of 2.1 trillion CNY in 2024, according to customs statistics. In June this year, the fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo will be held in Changsha City, Hunan Province, bringing in more favorable incentives for Hunan-Africa cooperation.
