First China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo Yields Fruitful Results

The three-day first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) ended on June 29. Luo Jianjun, executive deputy secretary-general of the Secretariat of the CAETE Organizing Committee, announced at a press briefing that the first CAETE has promoted China-Africa cooperation in such fields as trade, agriculture, manufacturing, service, finance, and infrastructure, yielding fruitful results.
 
During the CAETE, adhering to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contributions, and shared benefits, China’s and Africa’s local governments, state-owned and private enterprises, financial institutions, business associations, and non-governmental organizations, jointly signed 84 cooperation documents in the areas of trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, aviation, tourism, and sister-city, with an amount of 20.8 billion USD.
 
This year’s CAETE has attracted great attention from all walks of life in China and Africa and relevant international organizations. It was attended by more than 1,600 foreign guests, 5,000 domestic guests, and more than 3,500 domestic and overseas exhibitors, buyers, and professional visitors. The total number of participants surpassed 10,000. Fifty-three African countries that have established diplomatic relations with China, China’s 31 provinces and municipalities, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps all sent representatives to the CAETE. Representatives from more than 10 international organizations and institutions, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO); 8 financial institutions; over 150 first-class central enterprises and their subsidiaries; and, nearly 800 domestic key enterprises participated in the CAETE.
 
The public were also enthusiastic about the CAETE. African commodities were snapped up. The number of visitors exceeded 100,000.
