The 2025 Changsha Spring Festival Lantern Fair will open at the HB (Changsha) Film Town on January 22 and last until February 12, throughout the whole Spring Festival holiday. During the period, visitors can admire lanterns, watch China-chic performances, taste intangible cultural heritage delicacies, and purchase New Year goods, and join in a Spring Festival cultural tourism consumption event that integrates dining, traveling, entertainment, and shopping.
The lantern fair will feature a large-scale Spring Festival-themed lantern show and four supporting activities, namely the launch ceremony for Spring Festival cultural tourism activities and a lighting ceremony, a festive market fair, a Spring Festival-themed garden party, and a gathering for the Lantern Festival.
During the lantern fair, 17 intangible cultural heritage performances will also be presented, including dragon and lion dances, datiehua (or the molten iron fireworks show), face-changing, fire stick performances, knife-ladder climbing, acrobatics, bonfire party, and parades.
More than 40 groups of well-crafted lantern installations in various shapes will be on display on a 30,000-sqm lawn of the HB (Changsha) Film Town Phase II.
A New Year goods market fair themed "Welcome the Spring Festival" will be created, bringing together New Year products from Gaoqiao Grand Market, as well as various internet-famous foods of Changsha. Professional calligraphers will be invited to write Spring Festival couplets and Chinese character "fu" (meaning "blessing" in English) for tourists on the spot. Interactive activities will include printing customized patterns of the Year of the snake on red envelopes with gold paint and arranging flowers with auspicious meaning. The market fair will run from January 22 to 27.
