On April 29, Fang Zhihui (R), a follower of "Father of Hybrid Rice" Yuan Longping, presented a bag of hybrid rice grown in Guinea to Yuan's widow Deng Ze. This precious gift, bearing Guinean Prime Minister's handwritten message — "This bag of rice is a perfect symbol of Sino-Guinean cooperation. Conquer hunger!!!"— stands as a testament to the successful promotion of hybrid rice technology in Guinea. Today, hybrid rice has taken root in the country. There are 10,000 hectares of hybrid rice plantations which are expected to expand to 40,000 hectares. This not only signals Guinea's potential to achieve food self-sufficiency through large-scale hybrid rice cultivation, but also serves as a heartfelt tribute to Yuan Longping's noble vision: "Develop hybrid rice to benefit the people of the world."
