At the foot of Heimi Peak, located in the northeastern corner of Wangcheng District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, garbage collection trucks are pulling into the Heimifeng Environmental Protection Park. This large-scale comprehensive environmental protection industrial park is responsible for processing household waste from Changsha's six districts and one county, as well as the city's municipal sludge.
By establishing a "comprehensive and coordinated solid waste treatment + green energy" model, the park's daily processing capacity of household waste reaches 10,000 tonnes and that of sludge is 1,000 tonnes. Through waste incineration, the park generates over 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by over 1.2 million tonnes each year. This can meet one-tenth of Changsha residents' household electricity needs, providing a powerful boost to Changsha's "zero-waste city" initiative and its green, low-carbon development.
As a base for ecological environment science popularization and education in Hunan Province, since 2021, the park has received over 1,800 batches of more than 40,000 visits on public open days such as science and technology week, World Environment Day, and public holidays. Efforts have been made to popularize knowledge about garbage classification and solid waste utilization among the public, contributing to building a green homeland together.
