With the warm April breeze, all things thrive. As the misty rain on the Xiangjiang River meets the spring tides of the Mississippi, and as the verdant hues of Yuelu Mountain encounter the clear light of the Alps, a youthful gathering—using spring as its medium, youth as its bridge, and cooperation as the theme—was held in Hunan, as part of the province's efforts to accelerate the development of a youth-friendly province and deepen its opening-up.
On April 22, the China-U.S. Youth Health Dialogue and the China-Germany Young Leaders Conference were held simultaneously in Hunan. These two major international youth events will further strengthen the deep bonds of economic, trade, and cultural exchange between Hunan and the United States and with Germany, using the wisdom and energy of youth to jointly create a new vision of international cooperation.
Hunan and the U.S. Join Hands to Explore Healthy Youth.
The century-old Xiangya Red Building is located on Furong Road in Changsha, bearing witness to the compassionate years of generations of young Chinese and American medical professionals.
Over a century ago, Dr. Edward Hicks Hume, an American physician who traveled thousands of miles to Hunan, joined forces with Yan Fuqing, a medical graduate who returned home after completing his studies abroad. Together, they spearheaded the establishment of the Xiang-Ya (Hunan–Yale) School of Medicine (the predecessor of the Xiangya School of Medicine of Central South University), launching a new era of Sino-Foreign cooperation in higher medical education and laying the foundation for youth exchanges between Hunan and the United States.

Nowadays, through diverse channels such as trade, healthcare, and cultural exchanges, cooperation between Hunan and the United States has long transcended geographical boundaries and taken root in the hearts of the younger generation.
In April 2024 and March 2026, delegations from the Hunan Provincial People's Government visited the United States to deepen bilateral economic, trade, and cultural exchanges and cooperation. At the century-old Xiangya School of Medicine, from academic exchanges to practical collaborations in grassroots public health, generations of young doctors from Hunan have traveled to the U.S. to study cutting-edge technologies, while American medical experts have come to Hunan to share their expertise. These joint efforts have yielded fruitful outcomes in fields such as cancer prevention and treatment, smart healthcare, and public health emergency response.
Secondary schools and universities on both sides have established regular cooperation in student exchanges and joint research. American youth visited Hunan to experience intangible cultural heritage, while overseas Chinese youth traced their roots and learn traditional arts in Hunan. Through cultural exchange and mutual learning, they have deepened mutual understanding and forged transoceanic friendships.

This April, young people from China and the United States have once again joined hands to focus on medical education, scientific research, clinical services, and the innovative development of the pharmaceutical industry in Hunan. They are sharing cutting-edge ideas and practical experiences, and exploring opportunities for cooperation. This not only represents a youthful continuation of the medical cooperation between Hunan and the United States that has carried from one century into the next, but also serves as a vivid demonstration of the "Hunan Path" toward building a global community of health for all.
Hunan and Germany Strengthen Partnerships to Co-create a Smart Manufacturing Future.
When the Xiangjiang River meets the Rhine, sparks of innovation and smart manufacturing ignite across Hunan. As Hunan’s key trade partner and source of investment in Europe, Germany has engaged in cooperation with Hunan in fields such as smart manufacturing, new energy, and technological innovation.
In March 2025, a Hunan delegation visited Germany, where both sides deepened their practical cooperation and moved forward hand in hand through mutual learning and support. In 2025, the "Several Policy Measures for Deepening Sino-German Cooperation in Hunan" were introduced, opening new horizons for Hunan-Germany cooperation through policy incentives.

From the German subsidiaries of Zoomlion, Truking Asset Management, and Langjing Medical Technology to the industrial footprints of Bosch, Schaeffler, and BASF in Hunan, 37 Hunan-based enterprises and 33 German companies have forged two-way partnerships, building a bridge of friendship stretching from the Xiangjiang River to the Rhine. Platforms such as the German SME Headquarters Cluster (Hunan) in the Xiangjiang New Area and the Steinbeis Transfer Centers in the Xiangjiang New Area have further established a "dream factory" for innovation and entrepreneurship among young people from both countries.
The China-Germany Young Leaders Conference, which kicked off in Hunan, highlights the achievements of exchanges and cooperation between local governments of China and Germany, showcasing the shared vision of young people from both nations and Hunan's profile of opening up. Through group discussions, dialogues, and field visits, the conference promotes mutual understanding and deep interaction among Chinese and German youth, helping them foster lasting friendships. The event facilitates the alignment of Germany's "Industry 4.0" expertise with Hunan's efforts to build a hub for reform and opening-up in inland regions, thereby injecting youthful energy into the development of new-quality productive forces.
Youthful Hunan Opens Its Arms to the World.
Youth are the vanguard of the times and the bridges of international exchange. In recent years, Hunan has adopted the strategic goal of building a youth-friendly province, rolling out a series of policies covering employment and entrepreneurship, housing security, daily services, and international exchange. Every year Hunan provides young people with 200,000 jobs, 100,000 internship opportunities, 200 million yuan of startup capital, and a province-wide network of youth service stations and talent apartments. The province strives to ensure that young people from around the world have "access to employment, pathways to entrepreneurship, homes to live in, and companions for growth."

From the footprints of AFS international exchange students to cultural and civilizational dialogues between China and the United States; from the industrial practices of young Chinese and German engineers to the transnational rural co-creation program titled "From Far Lands to China's Farmlands", exchanges between young people in Hunan and their counterparts in the United States and Germany have long extended beyond campus to the industrial sector and expanded from culture to innovation. This has become the most vibrant symbol of Hunan's opening to the world.
In the blossoming month of April, Changsha has prepared a gathering for young people from China, the U.S., and Germany. Here, youthful ideas will converge and spark new insights, transnational friendships will take root and flourish, and blueprints for cooperation will unfold. Let us gather on the banks of the Xiangjiang River in the name of youth, forge consensus through dialogue, jointly create a better future through exchange, and write a brilliant chapter for the youth in the new era.
