Hunan's exports of rail transit equipment increased 47.5% to 770 million CNY in the first seven months of this year, the Changsha Customs Authority announced on August 13, 2025.
Amid strong growth momentum, Hunan's major trading partners played a notable role. Exports of rail transit equipment to Hong Kong, China amounted to 160 million CNY, surging 224.4%; exports to Germany reached 110 million CNY, up 68.2%; and, those to Kazakhstan expanded 17.7 times to 99.364 million CNY.
During the January-July period, Zhuzhou City exported 700 million CNY of rail transit equipment, representing a 51.2% increase and accounting for over 90% of the total. Changsha City exported 59.432 million CNY of rail transit equipment, marking a 28.2% growth. Major exports were parts for railway or tramway locomotives, battery-powered electric locomotives, and fixed devices for railway and tramway tracks and mechanical traffic management equipment components and accessories. Their export value totaled 220 million CNY, 130 million CNY, and 110 million CNY, respectively, growing 5.1%, 13.5 times, and 88.8%.
"So far this year, the growth rate of Hunan's rail transit equipment exports has remained at a high level. Stable increase of new contracts provided a solid foundation for industrial development," said a spokesperson from the Changsha Customs Authority. In early June, the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. won the bid for a project to supply 17 two-carriage light rail trains to Mexico City, which is expected to bring new growth opportunities. Under the circumstance of global efforts to carbon emission reduction, new energy technologies have gained international recognition, driving a significant rise in product exports. In May, the Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) confirmed that the hybrid-powered trunk-line locomotives customized by the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. have passed routine operational tests. The locomotive successfully pulled a freight train weighing 2,200 tonnes for a distance of 6.4 kilometers while relying solely on onboard battery power.
