The State Council has officially approved Hunan Province as the host for China's 16th National Games in 2029. This marks the first time the National Games are to be held in central China, and this session is set to be the highest-level, largest-scale, and most influential multi-sports event Hunan has ever hosted.
According to the approval, the General Administration of Sport and the Hunan Provincial People's Government should firmly take Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a guideline, thoroughly implementing President Xi Jinping's important speeches and instructions on the work of sports. The event should be organized adhering to the principle of "green, sharing, open, and honest" and meet the criteria of "streamlined, safe, and splendid." The hosts should carry out budget management rigorously, controlling costs and competition scales. All parties should make concerted efforts to make the 16th National Games a success, contributing to advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.
The National Games, held every four years, is China's highest level and largest national multi-sports event. The 15th National Games will be held from November 9 to 21, 2025 in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, with the opening ceremony being held in Guangzhou and the closing ceremony in Shenzhen.
