The Cuauhtémoc-Chapultepec section of the Mexico City Metro Line 1 Comprehensive Modernization Project, undertaken by the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd., reopened on April 23 local time.

The Mexico City Metro Line 1 is a crucial backbone route in the Mexican capital, spanning 18.83 kilometers with 20 stations and serving approximately 243 million passengers per year.

The Mexico City Metro Line 1 renovation project, awarded to the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. in 2020, is the company's first overseas "system+" project, involving investment and financing, new vehicle manufacturing, as well as comprehensive modernization and upgrading of existing car communication signal systems, electromechanical systems, and whole system maintenance.

Since October 2023, sections of the project have been progressively completed and reopened for service. Currently, 17 out of the 20 stations are operational, with 19 stations already completed.

Guillermo Calderón, director of Mexico City's Metro Collective Transport System, stated that the upgraded Metro Line 1 features brand new tracks, power systems, stations, and other facilities. With the introduction of 29 energy-efficient and more comfortable trains, the Metro Line 1 has become one of the most advanced metro lines in the Americas and even the world.

A day earlier, the first three MM-25 light rail trains, developed by the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. for the Monterrey Light Rail Line 1 in Mexico, entered service. The operation of these trains has significantly enhanced the transportation capacity and service quality of the Monterrey Light Rail Line 1, ensuring efficient urban transportation during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
