The Ministry of Commerce recently announced on its official website the evaluation results of the country's first batch of pilot cities for retail innovation upgrade. Changsha made the list, becoming the only city in Hunan Province to be selected.
According to the requirements outlined in the Implementation Plan of the Retail Innovation Upgrade Project issued by the Ministry of Commerce and six other ministries, the Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with relevant authorities, organized a panel of experts to conduct a rigorous review of the application materials submitted by various places.
The number of the newly-approved pilot cities for retail innovation upgrade totals 38, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Changsha, Nanchang, and Guilin.
As a city with a permanent population exceeding 10 million and a GDP surpassing one trillion yuan, Changsha boasts a sound commercial foundation. The city has established a diversified commercial structure featuring "one core business district and 31 regional business districts." Changsha ranks third in the country in terms of the number of top 100 commodity markets, and its convenience store development index has ranked among the top five nationwide for five consecutive years. Additionally, the city leads the nation in the proportion of nighttime instant retail orders on Meituan and ranks among the top five in the China Nighttime Economy City Development Index.
