A report titled "China's Best-performing Cities 2023-2024: The Nation's Most Successful Economies" was released in Beijing on September 3. Cities that have strategically invested in emerging technologies have thrived and dominated the top rankings despite a challenging economic environment, demonstrating higher economic resilience, the report says.
The report was compiled by the Milken Institute, a nonprofit think tank based in the U.S. According to the report, Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province and a burgeoning hub for e-commerce, topped the list of first - and second-tier cities. Wuhan climbed 27 spots to secure second place among China's first- and second-tier cities, followed by Jinan, which ranked third, Changsha in fourth, and Chengdu in fifth.
Changsha stood out as a regional industrial powerhouse, ranking fourth largely due to its efforts to actively attract multinational enterprises to settle in and promote value-added innovative industries.
