Under the guidance of the Art Exhibitions China, the Museum Headlines released the Chinese Museum Trending Searches. The 2023 list of Top 100 Popular Museums in China was announced. Three Hunan museums were shortlisted, including the Hunan Museum, Changsha Museum, and Xie Zilong Photography Museum.
This year the Chinese Museum Trending Searches covered 6,565 registered museums across the country. Twenty indices were set up as the evaluation basis according to the four dimensions of foundation, behavior, communication, and brand.
The Hunan Museum is among the first batch of national first-class museums. It houses more than 180,000 pieces of cultural relics, especially cultural relics unearthed from the Mawangdui Tombs of the Han Dynasty, Shang- and Zhou-era bronze wares, cultural relics of the Kingdom of Chu, ceramic calligraphy and paintings of various dynasties, and modern cultural relics. The museum receives more than 3.5 million visits every year. After years of development, the museum has become one of the most influential museums in China, and an important window for people to understand the process of Hunan civilization and appreciate the mysteries of Hunan culture.
In 2023, the Changsha Museum received more than 1.96 million visits and organized more than 700 educational activities open to the public free of charge, benefiting more than 50,000 visitors and scoring more than 6 million online hits. The museum won the titles of Hunan Overseas Chinese Cultural Exchange Base and the Excellent Foreign-related Attraction of Hunan Province. It was included in the first batch of Hunan Young Pioneers Off-campus Practical Education Camps (Bases) and Changsha's Top 10 Typical Application Scenarios of Smart Cultural Tourism.
The Xie Zilong Photography Museum is currently the largest public welfare photo museum in China. It integrates four major functions: image collection, academic research, exhibition, and public education. Since its opening in September 2017, the museum has served more than 4 million visitors and held more than 1,000 public art activities. It has become an influential Changsha cultural display window and an international art and cultural exchange platform at home and abroad.
