Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, visited the Rail Transit Exhibition Hall of the Hunan Science and Technology Museum on November 3, 2021.
On the afternoon of November 3, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, inspected the Hunan Science and Technology Museum. He asked to study and implement President Xi Jinping’s important expositions on scientific and technological innovation and science popularization. Efforts should be made to both scientific and technological innovation and popularization of science, to accelerate research on core technologies in important areas and improve the public’s understanding and appreciation of science. He believed that this would better serve high-level self-reliance and self-improvement on science and technology.
Chen Fei, vice governor and secretary of the CPC Committee of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, and Deng Qunce, secretary general of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government, attended.
Governor Mao learned about the renovation and expansion project planning of the Hunan Science and Technology Museum.
There are 9 theme exhibition halls such as Manufacturing World, Information Harbor, and Energy World, and 474 permanent exhibits in the A and B pavilions of the museum. As a large-scale popular science education venue, it has received 8.05 million visits since its opening in 2008. Governor Mao noted that the museum has great effect of demonstration and interaction and high participation features, and is an important place to inspire the youths’ scientific dreams and improve the scientific quality of the public. It is necessary to further tap Hunan's characteristic science and education resources; enrich and innovate the forms and contents of popular science exhibitions; and, attract more people, especially the adolescents, to visit and be interested in the museum. We should give full play to the platform role of mobile science and technology museum, “science popularization caravan”, and digital science and technology museum, to disseminate scientific ideas, popularize scientific knowledge, advocate scientific methods, and improve the scientific and cultural literacy of the entire society, he added.

During the inspection tour, Governor Mao called for building a sci-tech innovation highland with core competitiveness; accelerating the pace of scientific and technological innovation while promoting the popular science education and experience; displaying the achievements of scientific and technological innovation; and, making Hunan's contribution to high-level scientific and technological self-reliance. He added that we should pay great attention to speeding up the implementation of the overall plan; demonstrating the Three Highlands and Four New Missions Strategy; presenting Hunan's innovative characteristics; and, accelerating the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
