Hunan Has 100 Green Food Demonstration Bases

Hunan has established 100 green food demonstration bases and 498 mu (about 33.2 ha.) of standardized raw materials production bases, according to the Hunan Green Food Office on August 26.

Hunan has accelerated green development of agriculture, and taken great effort to promote green food. Statistics shows that, by June end, Hunan has 2,131 certified green food and 239 organic agricultural products. Hunan has maintained a relatively fast growth nationwide in the quantity of green food certifications, however, still needs to make improvement in quality and farmers’ income.

The Hunan Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has provide more policy and technical supports to enhance construction of green food demonstration production centers. Green food production has been expanded, in a bid to ensure what people eat are safe, and guarantee sufficient supply.

Recently, Hunan’s Yongshun passed the national examination of green food raw material standardized production bases. Standards are implemented before, during, and after production to ensure green quality of kiwi fruits. There are 110,000 mu (7,337 ha.) of kiwi plantation in Yongshun, which has increase incomes of more than 4,000 local farmers.

Hunan’s green food demonstration bases include the plantations for pod peppers in Rucheng, tea in Anhua, Yaozhen rice in Jianghua, and aquatic products in Nanxian. They have standardized planting and breeding, improved services, and set up benefit affiliating mechanisms, so as to promote production and raise the profile of green food.
