Hunan Achieves 123.65 Billion CNY of Foreign Trade in First Quarter

Hunan's total imports and exports reached 123.65 billion CNY in the first quarter, data from the Changsha Customs Authority showed on April 17, 2025. The province's exports rose 1.1% year on year to 47.66 billion CNY during the period.

Private enterprises have played a leading role in foreign trade. In the first three months, their import and export value amounted to 94.11 billion CNY. Among which, exports increased 2.2% year on year to 63.13 billion CNY, taking up more than 80% of the provincial total. During the same period, foreign-funded enterprises achieved 13.73 billion CNY of trade value. There were 5,649 enterprises with actual foreign trade performance, growing 8.3%.

Export of "new three" products, namely lithium-ion batteries, photovoltaic products, and electric vehicles, has shown a significant growth rate of 79.1%. The exported lithium-ion batteries expanded 179.1% to 1.4 billion CNY, ushering in an explosion in growth. Exports of electric vehicles surged 35.4% to 1.27 billion CNY, while that of photovoltaic products increased 12.9% to 160 million CNY. The province's mechanical and electrical products exports grew 2.4%, accounting for more than half of the total exports. Among which, exports of construction machinery and rail transit equipment increased 8.4% and 45.3%, respectively. Fireworks and firecrackers exports grew 42%.

Changsha's foreign trade has achieved a good start. Its total imports and exports were valued at 62.96 billion CNY in the first quarter, up 4.7%. The figure accounted for about half of the provincial total, ranking 13th among all the national capital cities (including municipalities directly under the central government). Changde, Huaihua, and Yiyang saw growth rates of 18.7%, 9.3%, and 24% in foreign trade, respectively.
