Hunan's 4 Sci-tech Towns Shortlisted for National Top 100

CCID Consulting's Center for Urban Economy Research recently released an annual list of the Top 100 Science and Technology Cities (regions). Hunan has four science and technology towns on the list, namely the Yuelu Mountain National University Sci-tech Town, Xiangjiang Science Town, Changsha Military-Civilian Integration Sci-tech Town, and Hengshan Science Town. Among them, three are located in Changsha.


The evaluation was based on three keywords – sci-tech city; science and technology; and, city. Meanwhile, the capacities in four aspects – infrastructure construction; sci-tech innovation; urban carrying capacity; and factor guarantee, as well as 31 specific indicators were taken into account to conduct a systematic evaluation of the comprehensive competitiveness and development potential of 348 sci-tech and science cities (regions) in Chinese mainland.


The Yuelu Mountain National University Sci-tech Town in the Xiangjiang New Area, Changsha ranked 20th nationwide and second in the central regions of China, and topped the shortlisted regions around the province. Oriented to market application of scientific and technological advances, it is committed to serving the institutions in innovation, including universities and research institutions, industrial parks and zones, and sci-tech enterprises, and promoting integration of the chains of innovation, talents, finance, services, and platforms. It aims to establish a scientific innovation ecological system featuring total factors, full industrial chain, and entire life-cycle. At present, there are 33 national-level and 230 provincial-level innovation platforms, 34 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 172 national-level researchers.


The Xiangjiang Science Town is in the spotlight for its debut on the list. It stretches south-to-north along the Xiangjiang River, covering areas in both Changsha and Xiangtan cities. It is located in the  Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Independently Innovation Demonstration Area, with the Yuelu Mountain National University Sci-tech Town in the north, and the Xiangtan Jiuhua Economic and Technological Development Zone in the south. It will be built into an origin of innovation outcomes, a cluster area for innovative personnel, a growth pole of innovation industries, a community of innovation ecology, and an engine of innovative development, boasting remarkable influence and driving force. So far, 11 projects in the Xiangjiang Science Town have started construction.
