The Dongting Lake Museum in Yueyang, Hunan, reopens with a fresh new look.
The southern section of the museum's first floor consists of three parts: "Dongting: A Peerless Lake," "Enchanting Landscapes," and "A Natural Paradise." The "Dongting: A Peerless Lake" narrates the geological changes of Dongting Lake, showcasing its formation process in geological history through exhibit displays, immersive landscape reconstructions, multimedia films, and other methods.
The "Enchanting Landscapes" illustrates the historical changes of Dongting Lake's waters, including chapters such as receiving the four rivers from the south, embracing the Yangtze from the north, and the lake's expanding and contracting, comprehensively presenting the characteristics of the Dongting Lake water system. It showcases the historical fluctuations in the lake's area and water levels, provides real-time tracking of current images of Dongting Lake, and tells the story of its changing waters.
The "Natural Paradise" section is the key exhibition hall of the natural history section, highlighting the important wildlife of Dongting Lake and their habitats, demonstrating the lake's significant contributions to the region's ecology. At its center, a massive reconstructed wetland and forest landscape presents a spectacle of soaring gulls and fish leaping, tigers roaring, and monkeys calling. Through exhibit displays, interactive games, graphic explanations, and featured species, it vividly portrays the unique flora and fauna of Dongting Lake and their living environments.
After the official opening, the Dongting Lake Museum will also launch the performance project "Dongting Illusion," an immersive 5D ecological show, creating an ecological signature of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. This will help establish the Dongting Lake Museum as China's first museum model IP for ecological civilization. At the same time, the performance project will aid in building the museum into a national base for ecological civilization science education, a national youth nature education classroom, a distinctly themed eco-tourism destination, and a new landmark for the integration of "culture + technology" and "culture + tourism" in Hunan's cultural tourism landscape, thereby forming a comprehensive "five-in-one" ecological and cultural platform.
