Goulan Yao Village

Goulan Yao Village in Lanxi Yao Township, Jiangyong County is a well-preserved ancestral home of the Yao people. It boasts magnificent mountains and waters, and rich folk customs. There are more than 300 dwellings dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Folk cultural traditions such as “Mud-washing Festival” are well inherited.

 

In 2012, Mud-washing Festival was added to the third batch of Hunan Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2014, Goulan Yao Village was listed as the sixth batch of China’s famous historical and cultural villages by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.

 

The scenic area is rated as a national 4A-level one in November, 2019.
