The Former Residence of Mao Zedong is located at Shangwuchang, Tudichong, Shaoshan Village, Shaoshan Township. It lies on the south and faces north, and the building structure is like the Chinese character "凹".
The Former Residence of Mao Zedong was the birthplace and childhood home of Mao Zedong. It is now a national 5A scenic spot, a "Red tourism" site and also a popular tourist destination. Mao lived here until 1910, when he left his hometown for education.
The room's furnishings have been kept roughly as what they were when Mao lived, and most of the utensils are original. Mao's family shared the middle hall with their neighbors, the whole complex forms a concave shape, which was a typical style of houses in Hunan Province at that time.
