On November 5, Hunan Province held a dedicated promotion event for the new materials industry in Shanghai, precisely targeting and absorbing industrial, sci-tech innovation, and capital resources in the new materials sector from the Yangtze River Delta, thereby strengthening, supplementing, and extending its industrial chain. Five cities, namely Shanghai, Changsha, Wuxi, Ningbo, and Changzhou, signed a framework agreement on coordinated development and cooperation in the new materials industry at the event.

The new materials industry is a strategic and foundational pillar industry of the national economy, and also a core track in global high-tech competition. Hunan's new materials industry has exceeded 700 billion CNY in annual revenue, with its scale firmly ranking first in central China. Its output of advanced energy storage materials tops the country.

The five cities all have a solid foundation in the new materials industry, each with its own specialized strengths and highly complementary in supply and demand. According to the agreement, the five cities will leverage the New Material Industry Show at the China International Industry Fair (CIIF) as a platform to establish a joint exhibition mechanism, organizing association members to take part in the show together, and jointly promoting the 'Five-city New Materials' brand. Following the national guidelines on implementing the "AI + Manufacturing" Special Action, the five cities will explore application scenarios and demand lists for "AI + New Materials," advancing integrated development, facilitating resource sharing, and reducing enterprise innovation costs.

The agreement also specifies that the five cities will establish a regular ranking-list release mechanism to facilitate the release of enterprise demands and the open competition mechanism to select the best candidates, enhance the flow of scientific and technological resources, and support research teams in undertaking cross-city research to tackle key problems. At the same time, they will organize joint efforts to tackle key problems, share innovation resources, and make use of the new materials pilot bases in the five cities to solve "bottleneck" technical problems and accelerate the industrialization of innovative achievements.
