"This order of cooked Huangjing food products sent to Hong Kong is valued at 8.5 million CNY, and it will be delivered in batches," said Wang Kuiguang, head of Hunan Dongxiang Huangjing Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd. The products will be supplied to major supermarkets and health care institutions in Hong Kong.
In the past, Huangjing products were usually declared as Chinese herbal medicine decoction pieces under the traditional Chinese medicine supervision channel. Though compound products such as Huangjing noodles and Huangjing wine were exported as food, Huangjing was only taken as an auxiliary ingredient. This export order relies on the SC Qualification (China's food production license) and customs registration for food export, without healthcare or medical efficacy claims. The products will be subject to supervision by the Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety after entry, entering the ordinary food distribution channels.
This marks a shift of Huangjing as a "medicinal raw material" to "daily ready-to-eat food," with its distribution channels expanding from traditional Chinese herbal medicine decoction pieces to public consumption scenarios such as supermarkets and food retail.
Xinhuang is located in the hinterland of Wuling Mountains, with high forest coverage, frequent foggy days year-round, and selenium-rich, clean soil. The soluble extract content of Huangjing here reaches 70.9%, with polysaccharides up to 27.7%, making it the "hometown of ecological Huangjing in China." At present, the county's Huangjing planting area reaches 58,000 mu (about 3,867 hectares), and its annual processing volume accounts for more than one-third of the national total. To ensure the smooth export of the first batch of Huangjing food, the Huaihua Customs Authority proactively responded to enterprise needs, using facilitation measures such as a "green channel" and "remote inspection" for local inspection, and "cloud-based certificate issuance" to achieve "instant declaration, inspection, and release," helping Xinhuang Huangjing broaden its path to overseas markets.
