Main Structures of "Five Major Buildings" of Xiangjiang Science Town Complete Construction

October is a prime period for project construction. The Xiangjiang Science Center, a landmark building complex of the Xiangjiang Science Town, has fully entered the final stage of decoration and is scheduled to open this December. The Xiangjiang Science Town (Changsha) Administrative Committee said on October 9, 2026.

The Xiangjiang Science Town is a landmark project of Hunan Province for building itself into a sci-tech and innovation center with core competitiveness, and a key carrier for Changsha City to build a leading area for its global research and development center development. The town has a total planned area of 153.65 square kilometers, spanning Changsha and Xiangtan cities. It will focus on five cutting-edge hard-core sci-tech fields: computational science, materials science, energy science, life science, and aerospace science. It will establish an array of national-level frontier interdisciplinary research platforms, gather first-class innovation entities and top talent teams, cultivate future industries and strategic emerging industries, and establish a full-chain innovation and entrepreneurship complex.

The first-phase area of Xiangjiang Science Town covers 5.8 square kilometers, with a total of 114 projects arranged, an investment of about 23.7 billion CNY completed, and an under-construction area of 1.9 million square meters. As the core engine of the first-phase area, the Xiangjiang Science Center consists of the "Five Major Buildings"—the Science Exchange Center, the Trade and Exhibition Center, the Science and Technology Service Center, the Xiangjiang Innovation Center, and the Xiangjiang Qihang Center. During the National Day holiday, the project continuously strengthened construction organization efforts to fully ensure steady progress.

While hardware construction is in full swing, sci-tech investment promotion and supporting projects are also being expedited. There are now 79 sci-tech innovation projects introduced into the Xiangjiang Science Center, with a contracted investment value of 45 billion CNY. The Hunan University Kechuanggang Campus was completed and put into use this September, welcoming its first batch of teachers and students. The construction of the first phase of the Hunan Steel Technology Research Institute project and the Hunan Normal University Kechuanggang Campus project are also underway. Major project construction is showing a good trend of multi-point efforts and parallel progress.
