On the afternoon of August 28, Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, made an inspection tour to the newly-established Kechuanggang Campus of Hunan University (HNU).

 
Governor Mao stressed the need to thoroughly implement President Xi Jinping's important expositions on advancing the integrated development of education, science and technology, and human resources, as well as his important speeches and instructions on Hunan's work. He called for focusing on the new campus' core strategic positioning—shouldering national missions, serving as a science and education hub in central China, and driving Hunan's development, striving to build itself into a world-class innovation complex for education and sci-tech innovation that stands out in central China.

HNU's Kechuanggang Campus is one of the debut projects in the Xiangjiang Science Town, setting a record among the universities included in the "Double First-Class" Initiative for the earliest project approval and fastest construction progress. The campus has now taken full shape and all facilities are fully operational, with faculty and students moving in gradually.
Governor Mao visited the teaching building, student canteens, dormitory areas, and the School of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and had cordial interactions with students. He encouraged everyone to make the most of the opportunities offered by "great buildings, great masters, and a great era"—to enhance patriotism, hone professional skills, and forge an enterprising character, aligning their aspirations with national development and preparing to shoulder the responsibilities of the era for Hunan's development. He also urged the university to continue improving the transportation, living, and cultural facilities, to ensure smooth and comfortable teaching, studying, and living.

During the inspection, Governor Mao called for accelerating the recruitment and cultivation of top-tier talent. Upholding the mission of nurturing talent for the country and the province, he urged all parties to align with national strategies, industrial needs, and key disciplinary priorities, building a strong faculty, fostering outstanding talent, and advancing the integrated development of education, science and technology, and human resources. He also stressed optimizing the disciplinary layout, with a focus on AI, integrated circuits, and new materials, while strengthening basic sciences, emerging fields, and interdisciplinary integration to better serve new quality productive forces. On scientific and technological innovation, he asked to establish a model led by strategic scientists and backed by large teams and robust platforms, intensifying high-level research, building high-caliber platforms, and accelerating high-efficiency commercialization to move more lab results to production lines. To empower industrial upgrading, he urged focusing on Hunan's modern industrial system orientation, continuously advancing collaboration between universities and enterprises, integration of industry and education, and coordination between universities and local governments, to enhance joint talent cultivation, platform building, resource sharing, project collaboration, and outcomes application, so as to create a virtuous cycle where education fuels industry and industry reinvests in education.
