Recently, Shangqi Research Institute released the "Profile of 2026 National Specialized, Sophisticated, and Innovative 'Little Giants'" and the Top 50 Cities Ranking based on data from the Chanyetong platform. As of the end of March 2026, a total of 17,578 national "little giant" enterprises had been recognized across seven batches nationwide. Changsha and Zhuzhou, two cities in Hunan Province, successfully made the list, ranking 17th and 43rd, respectively.

"Little giant" firms represent the novel elites of small and medium-sized enterprises that specialize in a niche market, have a strong innovative capacity, and command a high market share, serving as the backbone of industrial chains. As a pioneering provincial capital, Changsha has continuously optimized its industrial structure by implementing categorized cultivation plans—"develop small enterprises into large scale enterprises," "develop large scale enterprises into specialized enterprises," and "develop specialized enterprises into strong enterprises"—bringing the total number of national  "little giant"  enterprises to 244. Zhuzhou, leveraging its deep industrial heritage, has accelerated its growth, with a cumulative total of 85 national "little giant" enterprises.

According to statistics from Shangqi Research Institute, 66.73% of "little giant" enterprises have a registered capital of less than 100 million CNY, with the majority falling within the 10 million to 50 million CNY range. The average establishment age of these enterprises is 17.8 years, far exceeding the average survival period of small and medium-sized enterprises in China, highlighting the long process of technological accumulation and market validation for a "little giant" firm. By industry classification, "little giant" enterprises are primarily concentrated in manufacturing, scientific research and technical services, as well as information transmission, software, and information technology services.
