Recently, the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Statistics released the Statistical Communiqué on the National Economic and Social Development of Hunan Province in 2025. The document revealed that by the end of 2025, Hunan had 12.602 million motor vehicles for civilian use, representing a 3.8% increase from 2024. This means that, on average, approximately one in every five people in Hunan owns a car.

In particular, the number of privately-owned vehicles in Hunan reached 11.774 million, an increase of 4%; the number of cars for civilian use stood at 6.929 million, an increase of 2.9%.

In 2025, Hunan's economic growth remained generally stable, with improving quality and efficiency. The province's GDP reached 5,530.87 billion CNY, a 4.8% increase over the previous year, while the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 2,120.46 billion CNY, up 3.6% year-on-year.

The continued implementation of the trade-in policy has driven steady growth in automobile consumption, contributing to the increase in Hunan's motor vehicles for civilian use. Among these, the growth in the retail sales of new energy vehicles was particularly notable, increasing by 9% in 2025 compared to 2024.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the total number of motor vehicles for civilian use reached 366 million by the end of 2025, up by13.43 million over that at the end of 2024, of which the privately-owned vehicles numbered 323 million, an increase of 13.48 million.
