On January 9, the "Xiyi" super-large diameter slurry pressure balanced shield machine (SPBM) rolled off the production line in Changsha. This shield machine was jointly developed by the Wuxi Metro Group Co., Ltd., China Railway 14th Bureau Group Corporation Limited, and China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation Limited. The machine has a cutting diameter of 14.02 meters, an overall length of 120 meters, and a weight of approximately 3,200 tonnes. It will be used for tunnel construction in the Taihu Lake section of the Wuxi-Yixing Intercity Rail Transit Project (S2 Line).
The machine integrates multiple domestically-advanced innovative technologies, including high-precision guidance, advance geological forecasting, and fourth-generation synchronous dual-liquid grouting systems. It achieves intelligent tunneling through integrated "sensing, decision-making, and control," which will significantly enhance tunnel formation quality and excavation efficiency.
