Hunan's total import and export value reached 396.46 billion CNY in the first three quarters of this year, including 238.36 billion CNY in exports and 158.1 billion CNY in imports, said the Changsha Customs Authority on October 20, 2025. Growth rates have shown a quarterly rebound, with positive growth achieved for four consecutive months from June to September, recording increases of 14.4%, 1%, 0.9%, and 2.9% respectively.
There were 7,825 enterprises with actual import and export performance across Hunan Province during the January-September period, growing 7.5% year on year. Among these, 3,120 were manufacturing enterprises, contributing 49.3% of the total trade volume. Driven by various policies to stabilize foreign trade, the import and export volume of manufacturing enterprises in the province rose 8.6% year on year. Companies such as Changsha BYD, Lens Technology, Sany, CRCHI, Xiangtan Iron & Steel, and HKC Optoelectronics demonstrated strong growth momentum.
Hunan's trade with 118 countries and regions reported profit growth in the first three quarters, with 14 partners each achieving a trade volume of over 10 billion CNY. Among emerging markets, Hunan's imports and exports with ASEAN, Africa, and the Middle East were 73.83 billion CNY, 44.52 billion CNY, and 24.84 billion CNY respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 11%, 19.4%, and 1.8%. ASEAN remained Hunan's largest trading partner, while the province's trade volume with Africa consistently topped the central and western parts of China. Driven by bulk commodity transactions, Hunan's trade with Brazil reached 21.15 billion CNY in the first three quarters, up 6.8% year on year.
The value of export products continues to rise. Hunan Province exported 137.77 billion CNY of mechanical and electrical products in the first nine months, a year-on-year increase of 3.2% and accounting for about 60% of total exports. Among these, automobile exports (including chassis) climbed 17.6% year on year to 23.8 billion CNY, while exports of the "new three" products—represented by electric vehicles and lithium batteries—totaled 13.91 billion CNY, surging 77.4% year on year. Exports of high-tech products, closely related to new quality productive forces, grew 28% year on year, with their share rising to 12.2%. Exports of high-end equipment, including rail transit equipment and specialized machinery, increased 31% year on year.
Changsha's imports and exports grew 3.2% year on year to 211.91 billion CNY in the first three quarters, raising its share of the province's total to 53.5%. Half of Hunan's cities and one prefecture maintained positive growth, with Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture and Zhangjiajie City's trade volume surging 50.3% and 149% respectively compared to the same period last year.
