On August 23 local time, an Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) bullet train developed by the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. departed from the Kuala Lumpur Station and headed for Kluang, Johor, starting its official operation in Malaysia.
The launch of this train signified a new milestone of China-Malaysia cooperation in the rail transit sector, as an important testament to the continuous deepening of friendship between the two countries.
At the launch ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Station, Malaysia's King Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, as well as the chief secretary to the Malaysian government and representatives from various parties, together witnessed the official commissioning of the ETS3 bullet train. King Sultan Ibrahim entered the driver's cab and tried his hand at operating the train, injecting new momentum into the modernization of Malaysia's rail transit system.
The ETS3 project is scheduled to officially commence commercial operations on August 30. To ensure efficient operation of the train, the CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co., Ltd. has formulated a specialized support plan. Upon operation, travel between Kuala Lumpur and Johor will become more convenient, marking a milestone in promoting economic and social development along the route and enhancing regional connectivity.
The ETS3 train operates at an average speed of 160 km per hour, boasting multiple advantages such as excellent acceleration performance, energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and reliable operation. Equipped with a high-capacity backup battery, it can maintain emergency lighting and ventilation systems for up to two hours without an overhead line system, fully reflecting the "safe, smart, and green" design philosophy.
As CRRC's important localization platform in Malaysia, the CRRC Rolling Stock Center (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has long been committed to promoting localization of railway equipment manufacturing and talent development, making positive contributions to local employment and regional growth. CRRC has been adhering to technological innovation as its foundation, providing Malaysia with digital, intelligent, and green full life-cycle solutions. It has been continuously supporting the rail transit industrial development in Malaysia, injecting new momentum into China and Malaysia's high-quality construction of the transportation connectivity network under the Belt and Road Initiative.
