Xu Teli

Xu Teli, a celebrated Chinese revolutionist and educationist, was born in Shanhua (today's Jiangbei Town, Changsha County), Hunan on Feb. 1st, 1877. He was once the teacher of Mao Zedong and Tian Han. He participated in the Revolution of 1911 and became a Chinese Communist Party member in 1927 and joined in the Nanchang Uprising the same year. He was selected a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Republic of China (1931-1937), and engaged in the Long March (Oct. 1934 – Oct. 1935) of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. He had been appointed to a member of the Central People's Government Committee of the newly established P.R.C. He died at Beijing on Nov. 28, 1968, at the age of 91.

 

Xu's masterpieces were collected in the "Collected Works of Xu Teli on Education" and "Collected Works of Xu Teli". He was highly praised as "have an insatiable desire to learn, and be tireless in teaching".

The Xu Teli's Former Residence built in the late Qing Dynasty, it is located in Wumei Township, Changsha County. It has an area of about 1,700 square meters and a building area of about 581.7 square meters. In 1988, it was listed as a Hunan Province's most important culture and relics site. In August 2005, it was rebuilt by the People's Government of Changsha County and it was opened up to the public. In 2013, it was listed as a China's most important culture and relics site by the State Council of China.
