Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture of Tujia and Miao Nationalities is the only autonomous prefecture for minority nationalities in Hunan Province. It is is situated in the Wuling Mountain range,inhabited by people of the Tujia, Miao, Hui, Dong and Bai nationalities who constitute 72% of its total population.


Xiangxi has profound cultural and historical deposit, distinctive folk customs, and spectacular natural landscapes. The Zhangjihuai High-speed Railway, which opened to traffic in December 2021, passes through dozens of A-class scenic areas and hundreds of world-class and national ecological and cultural tourism attractions, forming a golden travel route. Shibadong Village in Huayuan County was the birthplace of targeted poverty alleviation in China.
