Office Working Meeting of National Human Resources and Social Security System
    2008-11-20

Novermber 18 - The office working meeting of National Human Resources and Social Security System was convened in Changsha. Yu Laishan, member of the Standing Committee of Hunan Provincial Party Committee and executive vice governor, attended this meeting.

Sun Baoshu, deputy secretary and vice minister of the Party Group of Human Resources and Social Security, emphasized the necessity to do everything possible to create more jobs and promote the stability of enterprises and society. Sun said that the impact brought about by the world financial crisis triggered by the U.S. sub-prime crisis on China's economic development should not be underestimated. Some labor-intensive export-oriented enterprises, especially medium- and small-sized enterprises are facing difficulties. What's even worse, textile and garment industries highly dependent on foreign trade along with export processing and other labor-intensive manufacturing industries are confronted with a greater impact.

The number of the unemployed is increasing, and the employment situation becomes critical. Sun stressed that the central government will take steps to promote domestic demand, covering fields managed by Human Resources and Social Security Departments, such as employment, social security, labor relations, wage and welfare, and migrant rural workers.

All departments of the human resources and social security system should act conscientiously in light of the actual situation, doing everything possible to increase employment and taking active measures to create more jobs for urban areas, college graduates, and families in trouble. Policy support should be strengthened, and efforts should be made to stabilize the employment by reducing the unemployment.

Efforts should also be ensured to continue to improve the social security system, to pay close attention to the employment of enterprises, especially labor-intensive enterprises, and to stabilize the labor relations of rural migrant workers.
