Hunan to Relocate 210 Thousand Poor People in 2018

May 15 witnessed the day that Hengnan County launched the project on relocating and resettling the poor people of the county to Xinlong Village, Santang Town. A villager from an impoverished household happily shared this exciting news to his relatives, “Project on relocation and resettlement construction starts.”

In 2018, Hunan will relocate 210 thousand poor people who are listed as the target of poverty alleviation project. An area of 5.2 million square meters will be used to build houses for them. Site selection and project designing have already done, and the work on relocation and resettlement has been launched in succession in the whole province.

According to the plan, by the end of 2018, Hunan will have fully completed the overall task of removing 720 thousand people set for the "13th Five-Year Plan" period (2016-2020). In 2016, 160 thousand people living in poor areas were relocated; in 2017, 350 thousand relocated; and in 2018, 210 thousand people will be moved. In 2017, Hunan Province had the relocation and resettlement project undertaken by the Hunan Construction Group based on the EPC model. All the resettlement sites have been successfully completed by the end of 2017. And households have been moving in one after another. This year, the relocation and resettlement project will also be undertaken by the Hunan Construction Group, involving 70-odd counties (cities and districts).

Hengnan County in Hengyang City planned to build 21 resettlement areas for the relocation project for poverty-stricken people. The project will cover an area of 59,275 square meters, benefiting 2,371 people from 885 households.
