The Hunan Provincial Agricultural Machinery Work Conference was held on February 25. It announced that agricultural machinery authorities would endeavor to reduce pesticide use, fertilizers, and farm waste; improve farmland; clear away silt and dredge waterways; and participate in rural infrastructure, to contribute to rural vitalization.

By the end of last year, the number of agricultural machinery cooperatives in Hunan has increased to 4,545; breakthroughs have been made in mechanical rice transplanting, and nearly 2,000 plant protection aircrafts and over 8,500 dryers introduced. The comprehensive mechanization levels of rice and canola were up to 73% and 56% respectively.

In response to the rural vitalization strategy, the Hunan Provincial Agricultural Machinery Bureau, will focus on promoting light-weight farm machinery in hilly regions in 2018, and building demonstration parks operated by diversified machines. It will support the construction of more than 800 modern agricultural machinery cooperatives this year. The bureau will regulate the policies of subsidies on farm machinery. Efforts will be made to promote sustainable development in agriculture and rural areas.
