The International Cooperation Forum on Resources and Environment, 2009 will be held tomorrow. Today was the registration day for all the delegates to the forum.
On the afternoon of April 17th, Zhou Qiang, governor of Hunan Province met in Changsha some of the guests invited to attend the “International Cooperation Forum On Resources and Environment, 2009” in hope of deepening cooperation to jointly promote the construction of the “Two-oriented Society” (energy conserving and environment friendly society).
Zhou met Mark Norbom, Vice President of General Electrical Company and President of Greater China Group; Xie Chongwei, General Manager of GE’s “Green Innovation” in China; George Kell, Executive Director of the UN’s Global Compact Office; Maurice Strong , UN Former Under-Secretary-General and Former Director of UNEP; Oltmann G. Siemens, Chairman of Advisory Board of First Trust Portfolios LLP, General Representative of International Finance Corporation in Europe and Former Chief Representative of World Bank Group in Germany; Lawrence Bloom, Chairman of Global Agenda Council on Urban Management of World Economic Forum; Daniel Dudek, Chief Economist of Environment Defense Fund of USA; Herbert Zloebl, Commissioner of IFEES Executive Committee and Executive Director of Partner for SURE; Sarah Kutulakos, executive director of Canada China Business Council (CCBC); Chai Szu Kiang, Director of Peking University Environment Fund; Shou Jian’gang, Managing Director of Canada China Business Council (CCBC) in China; Myron Brilliant, Senior Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Jin Ligang, Chief Representative of US Chamber of Commerce in China; Shen Lei, Representative of US Chamber of Commerce in China; Michael Pulch, Deputy Head of the European Commission Delegation to China; Katayama Kazuyuki, Minister of Embassy of Japan in China; Kiryl Rudy, Counsellor of Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in China; Michel Freymuth, Consul General of Consulate General of France in Wuhan; Any Chay Chuan, Consul General of Consulate General of Singapore in Guangzhou; Brian Davidson, Consul General of Consulate General of Britain in Guangzhou and other significant guests.
Zhou warmly welcomed these guests to Hunan to attend the international cooperation forum for the construction of “Two-oriented Society”. He pointed out that the Chang-Zhu-Tan city cluster in Hunan Province is one of the six pilot areas authorized by the Central Government to construct a “Two-oriented” Society. It is an important endeavor for the international community as well as for China, and has therefore had great impact in China. He noted that the forum is a good beginning, and it should be made, with the support of everyone present, a place for exchanging experience, exploring issues, taking action and coming up with counter measures, and then all the parties can carry out more extensive and deeper cooperation via the forum. Moreover, in the context of the global financial crisis, Hunan and other countries and regions, international organizations and enterprises have a great potential for cooperation in a wide range of areas. He hoped to deepen and strengthen cooperation with all parties in infrastructure construction, development of electronic information, environmental protection and other fields.
The forum is of great significance and has attracted much attention for the international community, said the guests participating in the forum.. They wish the forum reach a successful conclusion, and hope to cooperate with Hunan in various fields.
Vice Governor Liu Liwei and Secretary-General of the General Office of Hunan Provincial People’s Government Wu Jihai attended the meeting.
