Changsha, April 15 (Rednet) -- The Press Conference of "the International Cooperation Forum on Resources and Environment, 2009" is convened in the morning. It is known from the press conference that over 20 projects will be signed on the closing ceremony of the forum with a total investment of over 31.8 billion RMB. Besides, four cities including Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan and Yiyang as well as 6 enterprises will be included in the UN Global Compact.
Gong Ailin, deputy director of the Press Office of Hunan People's Government, presided over the press conference. Deputy Secretary-general of the Organizing Committee of the Forum Tan Jingchun publicized the news.
As revealed in the press conference, this international forum has got four distinct features, i.e. international scope and vision; the theme of environmental protection;Hunan characteristics; emphasis of practical effects.
This forum revolves around the theme of "resource conservation and environmental protection", and is composed of the opening ceremony, plenary session and two parallel sub-sessions as well as the closing ceremony.
Nine VIP representatives will address the forum over such topics as “the construction plan and prospects of Hunan’s ‘Two-oriented’ society”, “environment and economy”, “the current economic crisis and how to handle the climate change & the adoption of new energy”, etc. The addressers include Professor C. S. Kiang, renowned energy expert in the world, the founding dean of the College of Environmental Science at Peking University, the guest host in the forum, ZHOU Qiang, Governor of Hunan Province, Maurice Strong, Former Under Secretary-General of the United Unions and Former Director of UNEP, Qǔ Geping, Former Director-General of Environmental Protection Bureau of the People’s Republic of China and President of China Environmental Protection Foundation, Martin Khor, Executive Director of the South Centre, and others.
