
It’s said that the overall energy-consumption of building materials products is generally relatively high, and Hunan’s building materials industry, annually consuming about 100,000,000 tons of minerals of all kinds in Hunan, becomes a big energy consumer just following electric and metallurgical industries. In recent years, the building materials industry Hunan, while maintaining continuous, rapid and sound growth, has been quickening the restructuring with an emphasis on energy-saving, and therefore the energy consumption of unit product is lowering year by year and the comprehensive resource utilization has been increasingly improved. According to an estimate, the overall energy consumption rate of unit cement in Hunan was lowered by 3.5% over last year, and that of unit glass lowered by about 10% last year. Besides, the building materials industry annually makes use of nearly 20,000,000-ton industrial waste, making up 70% of industrial use of solid waste in Hunan.
Wide application of new procedures, technology and equipment for saving energy and reducing waste discharge accelerates development of the building materials industry. The development of new suspension preheated (NSP) cement substantially lowers the energy consumption of cement production. NSP cement lines that are in operation have amounted to 25 at present, over 30 by the end of this year and another 20 are being built. The technology of recycling waste heat to generate power can be used for over 30% of power consumption amount of cement production line. At present, 5 such power stations have been completed and come into use in Hunan and another 11 are being built. New walling material is being developed rapidly. In 2007, the percentage of adopting new walling material in Hunan has come to 47%, saving 670,000-ton standard coal and reducing 130,000,000-ton industrial waste gas discharge. The frequency and speed regulation technology of low-voltage power machine, saving 20%-30% of the power, has been rapidly spread and used.
