Beiji Big Chili

At the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, in Beiji village grows a kind of chili which is very high and looks like a large and tall umbrella. Its fruit is big, round in appearance and thick in flesh. Because of its shape, it is known as "Lantern Chili", but some grow as long as 30 cm and as heavy as 100 g, taking on the appearance of a cattle horn, so it is called "Cattle Horn Chili". This chili is very attractive and glaring for its red or green color.

The flesh of the lantern chili is thick and sweet. If the seeds are removed, stuffed with meat, fried in hot oil, and dusted with spring onion, and monosodium glutamate powder, the chili becomes a wonderful delicacy and the best dish to stimulate one’s appetite. Generally speaking, whoever comes to Zixing would order this dish.
