[Marriage] Applying for Marriage Registration with a Hunan Resident

Q: I am a foreigner, I want to apply for marriage registration with a Hunan resident, where should I go, what are the required materials?

Foreign-related Marriage Registration Office, Department of Civil Affairs of Hunan Province
Opening hours: Monday-Friday (except statutory holidays)

Required materials:
1. Chinese inland residents applying for marriage registration shall provide the following certificates and documents:
(1) His/her household registration and valid ID card;
(2) Signed statement on his/her marriageability and proof that they are not directly or indirectly related to each other within the past three generations.
2. Foreigners applying for marriage registration shall provide the following certificates and documents:
(1) His/her valid passport or other valid international travel documents;
(2) Certificate of his/her marriageability issued by the notary public office or competent authority of his/her country and certified by the consulate of the People's Republic of China in his/her country, or certified by the consulate of his/her country in China, or certificate of his/her marriageability issued by the consulate of his/her country in China.
The certificate should clearly state the marital status: single, unmarried, divorced or widowed. A Chinese translation of the documentation mentioned above is needed. If the translation is done in China, a photocopy of the translation agency's business license with its official seal on is required. If the translation is done in the country of the applicant, the translation needs to be authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate of the applicant.
