The Metro Line 5 (Phase I) started trial operation on June 28. It is a north-south trunk line east of the Changsha’s main urban area network. It has a total length of 22.5 kilometers. It starts at Maozhutang Station in Yuhua District and ends at Shuiduhe Station in Changsha County.

It runs through Yuhua, Furong, and Kaifu Districts and Changsha County, with a total of 18 stations including 3 transfer stations. It connects many large residential areas, hospitals, vocational and technical colleges, as well as important urban functional centers such as the Hunan Broadcasting System, Malanshan Video Cultural and Creative Industrial Park, Wanjiali Business District, and Hunan Forest Botanical Garden.
