Sangzhi Nantan National Grassland Natural Park is a typical semi-natural mountain meadow in the Wuling Mountains in northern Hunan, while Jiangyong Yanzishan National Grassland Natural Park is a typical mountain natural pasture in the Nanling Mountains in southern Hunan. They are representatives of two typical grassland ecosystems in southern China and have high ecological protection value. The two sites have potential for tourism, health care, and animal husbandry.

According to a person in charge of the Hunan Provincial Forestry Administration, Hunan will leverage the pilot program to promote grassland ecological protection and restoration, construction, and utilization. The two pilot parks will follow the principles of “giving priority to ecology and green development, scientific utilization, and efficient management”, protect the grassland ecosystem and its biodiversity, take ecological, social and economic benefits into consideration, and give full play to its functions including ecological protection, scientific research, publicity and education, production demonstration, and eco-tourism, so as to explore ways of protecting and utilizing grasslands. Efforts will be made to build the pilot parks into calling cards for ecological construction in Hunan.
