Hunan’s Huayuan, Chongqing’s Xiushan, and Guizhou’s Songtao county governments reached an agreement on collaborative treatment of the boundary river among Hunan, Chongqing, and Guizhou. The two provinces, Hunan and Guizhou and one municipality, Chongqing agreed to carry out coordinated administration for the Qingshui River section of Huayuan River, a boundary river among them.

Huayuan River is originated from Lengshuixi Town, Songtao County, Guizhou. It flows through Xiushan and Huayuan counties, with a total length of 187 km. Its Qingshui River section, a main branch of Youshui River and also a boundary river among Hunan, Chongqing, and Guizhou, is 73.5 km in length. The river chiefs of the three counties decided to accept Huayuan river chief’s suggestion, to collaborate in Qingshui River administration based on coordinated mechanism, patrol, protection, treatment, development, information sharing, planning, and construction. A joint conference will be annually organized by the three river chiefs in turn.

The first joint patrol was launched then, joined by related county leaders and river chief system officials. They observed waste stacking and river-related construction problems, and put forward solutions and plans, in order to jointly safeguard the boundary river environment.
